Story Town comes to library plaza Saturday

The annual family literacy festival Story Town on Saturday, Nov. 5, will bring stories to life with characters, performances, arts and crafts along the streets of Storybook Lane, Rhythm Road, Art Alley and at the Book Nook.
Story Town 2011 takes place at the Jácome Plaza, in front of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library at 101 N. Stone, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parking is available in the Library garage.
The festival is free. Families are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to enjoy. Children can enjoy various performances by local groups and take parts in arts and crafts. Free books also are available to festival goers.
Here is Story Town’s schedule of events:
10 a.m. Opening Ceremony with Honorary Mayor Amelia Bedelia.
After the opening ceremony, children can walk to the Art Alley to make a Knuffle Bunny craft or celebrate Arizona’s birthday with crafts and mining activities inside the children’s room in the library (ongoing all day).
10:30 a.m. Head to the Book Nook for a fun and interactive storytime with The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear.
10:30 a.m. Tariq Rasool and the Songhai Drummers perform on Rhythm Road.
11 a.m. Storybook Lane performances of short stories begin. Each performance is about 15 minutes long, and will take place from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
11:30 a.m. Li’l Cowpoke Campfire: Tales ’n’ Sing-Along inside the children’s room of the Main Library.
12:30 p.m. Tucson Twist-its presents Extreme Jump Rope on Rhythm Road.
12:30 p.m. Stroll over to Art Alley to make a Click, Clack, Moo craft.
1 p.m. Storybook Lane performances of short stories begin. Each performance is about 15 minutes long, and will take place from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Head to the Book Nook for a fun and interactive storytime with The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear.
1:30 p.m. Li’l Cowpoke Campfire: Tales ’n’ Sing-Along inside the Main Library.
2:30 p.m. Polish Dance Group Lajkonik on Rhythm Road.
3 p.m. Parade of Characters closes Story Town.

The annual event is presented by Pima County Public Library and Make Way for Books.
