New Art Exhibit Opening at Pioneer Building
December 29, 2011
An exhibition of combined media paintings by Barbara Brandel and Lorrie Parsell will open on January 4, in the historic Pioneer Building at 100 North Stone Avenue in downtown Tucson.
The exhibition is the seventh in a series organized by the Tucson Pima Arts Council to showcase artwork by Pima County artists in the Pioneer lobby and Suite 109, the TPAC conference room.
In collaged mixed media paintings with recycled world stamps and maps, Brandel creates costumed characters traveling through life – displaying experiences, ancestries, desires, wishes, and perhaps regrets on their garments or as part of their very skin. Inspiration comes from the stamps, from life or news events, literature or things imagined.
Parsell works as a collage artist as well. Using a no-brush method of production, she creates abstract mixed-media images of intense color and multiple textures. Her goal is to create an emotional bond with the viewer.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception with the artists on Saturday, January 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The exhibition will continue through Wednesday, March 28. Regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
