Downtown Will Be Janos’ Only Roost For Now

May 2, 2012

Come May 27, you’ll have to come Downtown to enjoy the delicacies of Janos Wilder.

Janos and J BAR at the Westin La Paloma Resort will serve their last meals and cocktails on May 26, meaning DOWNTOWN Kitchen + Cocktails will be the only Janos dining option for now.

Janos Wilder

Wilder leaves Westin La Paloma after 15 years in the foothills, coming full circle back to Downtown. Wilder originally put his stamp on the Tucson dining scene at the Tucson Museum of Art from 1983 until he lost his lease in 1998.

“Rebecca and I are looking forward to concentrating on our latest venture, DOWNTOWN Kitchen + Cocktails,” Wilder said. “While we recognize that closing at The Westin La Paloma signifies the end of a significant chapter both for us and for the culinary scene in Tucson, it also marks new beginnings. DOWNTOWN Kitchen + Cocktails, which we opened in the fall of 2010, is already recognized as one of Tucson’s favorite and best restaurants. We are currently considering several new opportunities for our culinary expressions.”

The Westin La Paloma Resort recently transitioned to new ownership to Southwest Value Partners (SWVP) and is planning a large-scale property rejuvenation. SWVP plans to use the space occupied by Janos and J BAR to offer a new restaurant concept inspired by its dramatic views, local flavors, and creatively fun libations.

“The Wilders and their restaurants have been extremely valuable partners of The Westin La Paloma Resort,” said Jonathan Litvack, The Westin La Paloma Resort General Manager. “Chef Janos’ contributions to the local and national culinary scene have certainly enhanced the Tucson experience for many of our guests and clients. We wish him the best and look forward to exciting developments in his and our future.”
