Financing Tools for Economic Development

July 23, 2012

One of the main sources of public funding for economic development comes from the US Housing and Urban Development office. HUD administers various funds, including the Community Development Block Grant. CDBG funding provides support for those in need. Much of this funding may be used for activities that result in job creation for low and moderate income people.

HUD has a “toolbox” on its website detailing the various ways CDBG funding can stimulate the economy through job creation. See: http://www.hud.gov/offices/cpd/economicdevelopment/toolkit/

The City of Tucson is an “entitlement community” and has a number of these programs. The Tucson Community Development Loan Fund is our HUD 108 loan program. Details are through the Economic Development Manager Debbie Chandler with the City of Tucson — 520-837-4079 or debbie.chandler@tucsonaz.gov.
