Mark your calendar for Oct. 13.
That Saturday there will surely be something going on Downtown to please anyone with a sense of worldly adventure and rollicking musical entertainment.
Those two events are plenty to amuse just about anyone.
But wait! There’s more.
It’s parade/walk weekend, too – in triplicate.
The parades starts at 11 a.m. with the Pride on Parade celebrating the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The parade goes up 6th Avenue from 18th Street to 12th – Armory Park, and ends at the 35th annual Pride in the Desert Festival, which takes place from noon to 8 p.m. at Armory Park.
Come the evening and it will be time for ghoulish costumes and the 7th annual Zombie Walk. This starts with costume contest registration at 6 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Apartments parking lot, 55 N. 5th Ave. The walk then staggers away at 8:30 p.m. and ultimately shocks the folks hanging out at the 2nd Saturdays stage on Scott Avenue, north of Broadway.
The parading continues bright and early on Sunday at 9 a.m. with the 24th annual AIDSWALK. The walk starts at Church Avenue and Alameda Street, threads through the El Presidio Neighborhood, circles the Tucson Convention Center and ends in front of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library. The walk culminates with a quilt opening ceremony of four quilts from the National AIDS Project.
