October 23, 2012

El Grupo presents its 9th Annual Bicycle Scavenger Hunt “The Headless Hunt” as a fundraiser to support its mission of empowering youth through bicycles on Sunday, Oct. 28.

The super fun, challenging and yet also family-friendly event will start at 9 a.m. at Playground Bar & Lounge, 278 E. Congress St.

You bring your bike (and friends!). El Grupo will give you a map of the Downtown area. On the back you will find 10 riddles to solve and 10 objects to find.

You will race, ride or gallop (at your chosen pace) within a 3-mile radius of Downtown, searching for objects, tackling feats of strength and stupidity. Family distance will include only 5 locations within a 1.5-mile radius.

With all the objects in hand, you will return, race, dash to the finish for your team’s time and some good ol’ celebrations….as in HUB Ice Cream and/or a local brew at Playground!

Also, there will be a raffle with prizes from other awesome local businesses. Prizes and original handmade trophies for fastest duos and 3+ teams (female, male & co-ed), fastest family, and team who had the most fun (or maybe the best costumes)!

Sign up as individuals, but the “head-less” hunt must be tackled in duos (male, female or co-ed) or 3+ person teams (male, female or co-ed). Teams are announced the day-of (whether pre-planned or spontaneously). This is for those who are looking for a challenge and some serious fun. Expect to ride 15-25 miles in 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on your street smarts, speed and determination or delightful distractions.

Family distance riders can expect to ride 5-8 miles in 1.5-2 hours, depending on your street smarts, speed and determination or delightful distractions. A “Family” must contain at least one individual under 12 years old.

Pre-registration and more info can be found here.
