Hotel Congress Hosts a World AIDS Day Celebration on Dec. 1
The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation is hosting an event at Hotel Congress on Dec. 1 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of World AIDS Day.
The event will showcase an eclectic lineup of entertainment and competitions in an effort to increase global and local HIV/AIDS awareness and raise money for local preventative and educational programs.
The celebration starts at 4 p.m. and continues deep into the night.
From 4 to 8 p.m., the activities include:
• Polar Bear Triathalon – Sponsored by New Belgium Brewery, the Polar Bear Triathalon is a challenging and fun competition in which all participants will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a 2012 New Belgium Beach Cruiser. Register here.
• World AIDS Day Art Show & Raffle – Live artists Rock Martinez, Marcus Lovato, Mark Matlock, Donovan White, Ed Muren III, Randy Young, and Jessica Gonzales join other local artists to create World AIDS Day works and other pieces that will be made available for raffle and to the public. • Outside Global Celebration – An outdoor stage that will feature World AIDS Day speakers and global dancers including The Skrappy’s b-boys, Knuckle Up 2, A Troupe Fro ZUZI, Capoeira Brasil and Fire Opals.
The nighttime celebration starts at 9 p.m. with an Eazy Duz It Tribute & Dance Party. An all-night dance party that will pay homage to famed hip-hop artist and HIV victim, Eazy E. Live musicians and DJ’s will play through the evening covering Easy E and NWA songs and playing originals and other hip hop favorites. There will be DJ sets from DJ Captain Antenna and Phen and live music from Jivin Scientists, GLDNGHST, Feeding Frenzy, The Pangs and Big Meridox.
