Break Out Your Platform Shoes! KXCI Celebrates 1973
August 5, 2013
In 2009, KXCI began a tradition by inaugurating KXCI Celebrates Woodstock. Every August since, they’ve dusted off their vinyl and 8-tracks, platform shoes and bell bottoms to celebrate the music of 40 years ago. This year, the tradition continues with “KXCI Celebrates 1973”. This all ages benefit concert will feature local musicians playing sets from the albums that rocked 1973. All proceeds support the KXCI Community Radio.
Performers, artists, and albums include:
Hank Topless covering Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors”
Jim Howell Band covering Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”
Golden Boots covering Wings’ “Band on the Run”
Cochise County All Stars covering Waylon Jennings’ “Honky Tonk Heroes”
Deschtuco covering Neil Young’s “Time Fades Away”
Silverfox covering David Bowie’s “Aladdin Sane”
Sun Bones covering Stevie Wonder’s “Innervisions”
“We think it’s always a lot of fun because there is the familiarity of the great albums that are a part of our shared history, combined with the freshness and surprises of local acts,” Said Amanda Shauger of KXCI. “Will your favorite local group cover the album note for note- or will they provide their unique stylings. Only one way to find out!”
Feel free to dust off your vintage 1973 attire, pack up the kids in the back of the station wagon and head to the Rialto Theatre. Consider this as part of Tucson’s birthday month, celebrating both our 238 years as a city and our 4,000 years of community.
Tickets range from $11 general admission in advance of the show to $17 for a reserved seat. Tickets and more information are available online or by contacting Michelle Boulet-Stephenson at 520-623-1000 ext. 13.
