  • The first Tucson Sun Link Streetcar has arrived at the Maintenance and Operation Facility. A series of overnight testing of the vehicle and electrical system is scheduled to be conducted over the next several weeks.
  • During the week beginning September 15, 2013, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the Sun Link Streetcar will be pulled by a tow truck (dead wire testing) along sections of the alignment. When that phase of testing has been completed, the overhead system will be energized, and the streetcar will be tested along sections of the alignment at speeds of 1 to– 2 mph and 10 to– 12 mph.
  • Officers will escort the vehicle and help direct traffic during this operation.
  • During the week of September 15, 2013, the contractor will pave and stripe several sections of roadway along the downtown and west end of the alignment. Traffic is currently restricted from most of these areas and no additional impacts are anticipated during this operation.
  • The southbound lanes of Granada Avenue between Congress and Cushing Street will be paved, striped and re-opened to travel by the end of the day Friday, September 20, 2013.
  • Cushing Street under I-10 and the eastbound I-10 frontage road will be paved, striped and re-opened to travel by the end of the day, Friday, September 20, 2013.
  • Beginning at 2 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013, the contractor will complete roadway work in preparation of pavement marking and legend installations along 4th Avenue, from University Boulevard to Ninth Street.
  • Fourth Avenue, south of Sixth Street will be closed from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday, September 20. All cross streets (Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Streets) will remain open during this work.
  • Parking will be restricted along Fourth Avenue between Sixth Street and University Boulevard from 2 a.m. to noon during this work.
  • Downtown traffic signal installation is complete and the signals have been activated. Three way stops have been removed. Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians should use caution in the area while the public becomes accustomed to the change in traffic control throughout the downtown area.
  • The contractor will continue with utility adjustments through mid-September 2013, along Broadway, Congress Street and Granada Avenue. Motorists should prepare for lane restrictions in the area of work. At least one travel lane will be maintained at all times.
  • The contractor is continuing with the installation and adjustments of the overhead contact wire along Broadway from Toole Avenue to Granada Avenue. Motorists should expect lane restriction in the area. Officers will be on site to direct traffic during this work.
  • The contractor will continue installing sidewalks, curb and access ramps in the following areas:
  • Broadway, from Granada Avenue to Fifth Avenue.
  • Cushing Street, from Granada, west under I-10 to Avenida Del Convento.
  • Traffic may be shifted to accommodate work in the area.
