Enter a World of Beer in Downtown Tucson

The idea of a ‘world of beer’ sounds like an impossible daydream, a nap-time delusion equivalent to Homer Simpson’s legendary trip through ‘The Land of Chocolate’. (“Mmmmmmm, beeeeeer.”) Luckily for us, however, it’s a world very much within reach, especially if you regularly haunt Downtown Tucson.
World Of Beer will be opening its doors on October 28th at 5pm with a special Sneak Preview Ticket Party event, and the official Grand Opening will go down at 9am on Halloween, beginning with a Belgian waffle and chicken breakfast, and culminating with their own ‘WOBoween’ event featuring a Mega Costume contest and a massive giveaway of beer-related prizes.
They are slated to offer more than 50 beers on tap, featuring potent brews ranging from Stone Brewing Co.‘s Double Bastard Ale to the happily goosenecked Sofie by Goose Island Beer Co., and more than 500 bottled varieties of beer from around the globe. A partnership with Arizona breweries also ensures plenty of local craft brews as well.
The new location marks the company’s second foray into Arizona (and 51st location overall), with the first having opened up on Tempe’s Mill Avenue over a year ago.
“We are glad to open WOB Tucson with the great selection of craft beer that we are known for as well as our exclusively developed Tavern Fare and hand crafted cocktails,” said World of Beer CEO Paul Avery. “We look forward to bringing new flavors to Tucson and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
Indeed, the menu is quite eclectic, ranging from lighter fare like soups and salads to much heavier pub classics like bratwurst, grilled sandwiches, flatbreads, and a wide array of snack-worthy bar favorites like fried pickle chips, battered shrimp, and ‘Pig Wings’ (pork shanks glazed with BBQ sauce paired with blue-cheese dressing). We imagine Homer Simpson would squeal with delight over Pig Wings.
“World of Beer is a little different than your normal bar,” explains WOB PR rep Jen Pruett. “The owners are looking to embrace the spirit of Downtown Tucson, given that it’s such a hotbed for live music.”
The vibe in the new establishment can be best described as somewhere between that of a neighborhood sports bar, with extensive outdoor patio space, and a large specialty retailer. WOB offers you-build-it six packs to go, and will feature an ongoing slate of what they refer to as ‘beer-centric’ events that play a role in establishing what they refer to as ‘WOB culture’. “We want this to be an atmosphere for hanging out, with educated staff that can tell people all about the beer they’re drinking,” said Pruett.
World of Beer is just the latest addition to a thriving Downtown Tucson scene, and given their commitment to offer a full slate of Arizona-native craft brews and foster another vibrant outlet for live music, a solid addition. They are located at 350 E. Congress St., beneath The Cadence student housing. For more information, visit the World of Beer Tucson Facebook page.
