As a Marvel fan and a Tucsonan, all I can say is that these kids enjoying The Beach last weekend were ADORABLE.

There’s a charged energy in the air around Downtown Tucson, more palpable than ever after last weekend’s historic SunLink Streetcar inaugural weekend. More than 60,000 Tucsonans rode the eight brand new cars over the weekend, and it was so busy that overflow buses had to follow the cars around much of the time down the entirety of the streetcar’s line, from Main Gate Square to Mercado San Augustin, as everyone collectively partied like it was 1999 for a good 72 hours. It’s the middle of the week now, and hopefully you’ve recovered, and you’re now as awash in lovely pictures and even better memories as we are.

Hope you’re ready to do it again, because ain’t no party like a party at The Beach, ‘cause a party at The Beach don’t stop! Last weekend’s enormous shindigs, thrown by both the Downtown Tucson Partnership and Hotel Congress, were completely ridiculous, capacity affairs that packed The Beach space (status officially conferred by next-level parchment decree from Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild himself) all weekend long.

Volleyball, badminton, pink flamingoes, you name it, it was rockin’ at The Beach.

“Oh, it was incredible,” said Caitlin Jensen, Marketing Director for the Downtown Tucson Partnership. “We packed the space full, everybody was having a blast, listening to great music while dancing or playing volleyball in the sand. The community has responded so well to this space.”

This weekend will be no less alive with activities going on at The Beach. On Friday, August 1st, everyone’s favorite Downtown rooftop lounge and gameday destination, Playground Bar and Lounge, will be hosting their own Beach event from 6pm to midnight, co-hosted by the United States Bartenders’ Guild for a night of music, drinks, and all-ages fun featuring live jams by Sunduster from 6:30-8:30pm.

Afterwards, DJ JED will be spinning beats for you to dance the night away! Drinks will be mixed by the Playground Bar team, and there will be Alliance Beverage and Beer specials from Golden Eagle Distributing. All ages are welcome absolutely FREE, but you must be 21 with a valid ID to drink, of course.

Thousands of revelers basked in the glow of what has become a genuine rebirth of good livin’ in Downtown Tucson.

The next day, Saturday, August 2nd,The Beach will be host to a Farmer’s Market, by Food In Root, going on from 8am-2pm. After that, EcoGro will present a unique event called The Weird Plant Show & Sale from 2-5pm. So you can shop for incredible locally-grown produce, or possibly find a gargantuan man-eating piranha plant that would be at home in either Super Mario Bros. or Little Shop of Horrors. (No guarantees.)

Saturday night at The Beach will bring forth another high-powered, can’t miss-soiree courtesy of the world-class good-time engineers at Club Congress, who in tandem with El Tambo, present the Latin Tropical Block Party. Lovely Latin dance vibes will be spinning all night long, in live form by Viento Callejero (Los Angeles) & DJ Musa (Phoenix). DJ Dirtyverbs will be on the wheels of steel on the outdoor stages, and DJ BOB Felix & Sid the Kid will be in the Club. As if all that fantastic music weren’t enough of a reason to come out, there will be tequila specials, food trucks, and last but not least…a waterslide. Yes, The Beach will be graced with a waterslide.

Best of all, all of this relentless awesomeness also comes to you absolutely FREE. No cover. That all goes down from 9pm to close at 2am. It’s not a matter of if you should go, but more a matter of if you don’t go, can you live with the endless tales of awe and wonder your friends will speak of, having gone when you didn’t? Of course not. Don’t miss out. Don’t die wondering! Come out to The Beach this weekend for any, or better yet, ALL of these events, and so much more, going on in Downtown Tucson. For the full calendar of events, please check out the Downtown Tucson Partnership’s web presence here.

The Beach can be found at 5th Avenue between Congress Street and Toole Avenue, next to the MLK apartments, directly across from the Hotel Congress patio.
