This Saturday will mark the one year anniversary of the Sun Link Streetcar’s arrival to Tucson and the city is looking to celebrate with a good ol’ fashion party where the whole town is invited.

On July 25, the city’s central entertainment districts: Downtown, Fourth Avenue, Main Gate Square and Mercado San Agustin will be hosting the Big Kahuna Birthday Bash to celebrate the streetcar’s first year in the Old Pueblo. The bash will be bringing a variety of entertainment including live music, water games, food and more, near spots along the streetcar route, which you’ll be able to ride for free all day Saturday. Merchants will also joining in on the family-friendly celebration offering deals of up to 10% off, so come prepared to get your shop on.

Have some kids you need to keep entertained this weekend? Hop on the streetcar and head down to Main Gate Square. Cuadre Arte Latino Internacional will be hosting plenty of fun art activities, along with face painting and balloon hat creations for kids of all ages. Geronimo Plaza will also be having a costume contest, giving you the opportunity to wear your favorite tropical outfit or put a hula skirt on your unsuspecting dog and enter to win some great prizes.

This guy has been out of testing and in service for a year, giving over a million rides to date.

What’s a tropical party without some good food and fruity cocktails? Pasco Kitchen and Lounge will be opening up their Tiki Bar at 4 p.m. where they’ll be serving up cocktails while the crowd enjoys games and contests. At 6 p.m., Pasco will keep the party going in Geronimo Plaza with a luau and a pig roast! For $20, you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat pass and kids under 12 can eat for just $5. Twenty percent of the proceeds will go to benefit the Heirloom Farmer’s Market. Live music from Still Cruisin’ will also be there from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to help you relax after your almost certain pork indulgence. If you’re in the mood for more music, take the streetcar to Fourth Avenue where there will be free live music in various locations around the popular strip.

There will be plenty of live performances all around the route but if you’re looking to cool down and enjoy some sights while on the streetcar, you’ll want to keep your eyes open for a particularly special streetcar. Local radio station, KXCI will be entertaining some lucky riders as they continue their Summer in the City live streetcar concert series with Crystal Stark, who will be performing in one specially marked streetcar from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Thousands packed the streetcar in October to attend 2nd Saturday and a Wildcats game.

Continue the tropical fun Downtown where Hotel Congress will be throwing their annual Wet Hot American Block Party. Starting at 9 p.m., Hotel Congress will be kicking their party off with a comedy showcase featuring Henry Barajas, Pauly Casillas and special guest headliner Brandon Wardell. Because two stages are always better than one, HoCo is amping up the fun with both an indoor and an outdoor stage. Inside, Shelco Garcia & Teenwolf from Las Vegas and local DJs, Bob Really/Andrew Shuta will keep things grooving while special guest DJ Slobby Robby featuring Goonies Cult and local DJs, Sid the Kid and Jalph, will turn things up on the outdoor stage where there’ll also be a water slide, dunk tank, photo booth, and even an ice cream truck to keep the party going all night.
