Alamo Gallery

101 W Sixth St. 982-0221. Gallery hours: Monday-Friday: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and by appointment. The gallery features paintings and sculptures by the Steinfeld Warehouse artists, and custom furniture by the Alamo Woodworkers.

Bohemia

299 S. Park Ave. (in the Lost Barrio). 882-0800. Gallery Hours: Monday-Saturday 10:00am to 6:00pm and Sunday 11:00am to 4:00pm. New gallery featuring utilitarian and decorative art created locally. Shows are ongoing, with new artists added weekly. Original jewelry, ceramics, weavings and fabric art, photography, paintings, sculpture, metalwork and more are showcased in this unique indoor and outdoor gallery setting. On Saturday, August 23, Bohemia presents “Word Love Take II”, an evening of spoken word and music. Performances by local artists will take from 7:30 to 10:00pm. Please call for more details.

Davis Dominguez Gallery

154 E. 6th St. 629-9759. Summer Hours: Friday and Saturday only, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. “Modern Mix,” features paintings by Josh Goldberg, Robert Cocke, Joanne Kerrihard, Susan Conaway, Tim Murphy, Duncan Martin, Jan Olsson and sculpture by John Davis, Katja Fritzsche, and others in the Main Gallery. “Small Works Review” shows in the Alcove Gallery. Both exhibits run through Saturday, August 30.

Dinnerware Contemporary Art Gallery

The gallery is closed in August as they complete their move to the new location at 210 North 4th Ave. The gallery will reopen in mid-September. Please call 792-4503, for more information.

The Drawing Studio

214 North 4th Ave. 620-0947. Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, from Noon to 5:00 pm. “The Art of Summer II” works produced by the teenage participants of the Summer Youth Visual Arts Program is currently featured through Saturday, August 16. Will Bonner, Cynthia Miller, and Catherine Nash lead their students in the process of art exploration. All sales will directly benefit the Youth Program at The Drawing Studio. The “5th Annual Drawing from the Figure Exhibit” opens Wednesday, August 20, through Saturday, September 27.

Etherton Gallery

135 S. 6th Ave. 624-7370. Gallery Summer Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Etherton Gallery’s “Summer Selections” features an array of American Master Photographers including, Brett Weston, Harry Callahan, Aaron Siskind, and Ansel Adams. Also on view are works in a range of media by local artists including, Bailey Doogan, James G. Davis, Gail Marcus-Orlen, and Chris Rush and many more stay cool artists. The show continues through Tuesday, September 2.

The Limelight

634 North 4th Ave. 623-3973. Wednesday–Sunday Noon to 5:00 pm, and by appointment. Opening August 21, through September 27, is Mirle Freel, Jr.’s “Drawing from the Subconscious.” Also showing is “Set Theory” a series of small paintings by Christina Hiett and “Unification” a sculpture installation by Hazel Colditz. An artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Lionel Rombach Gallery

The University of Arizona School of Art, located at Speedway and Park (across from the UA Museum of Art). 626-4215. Gallery hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Sunday, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Showing through Thursday, August 14 is, “The 100 Days Off” paintings, photographs and prints by Nathan Britko and Kevin Lucero Less.

Meliora

178 E. Broadway Blvd. 792-9544. Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and by appointment. Showing through the fall is “Last Picture Show.” Gallery founder and Architect-Builder Bil Taylor displays a retrospective of his own work through photographs and models. This fall the gallery will close.

Phantom Front Gallery

Featuring paintings by Susan Matte-Farina. The work can be viewed through the windows of the old Thrifty building on Congress St. between Scott St. and Stone Ave. Susan Matte-Farina paints from nature and life experiences.  Her large acrylic canvases flow with vibrant energy and intriguing organic images.  Subject matter ranges from floral scenes to dreamy abstracts.  The work will be displayed through October 1. Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery

222 E. 6th St. 881-5335. Gallery Hours: Friday and Saturday, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and by appointment. “¡ Raices and Friends Y Tú Mamá También !” is currently showing through Saturday, August 9. The 2nd annual invitational exhibition features Raices Taller 222 member artists and their invited guest artists. Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery & Workshop is the only Latino based nonprofit cooperative contemporary art gallery located in the downtown Tucson Arts District.

Rings of Wood Collaborations

302 E. Congress St. and 5th Ave. Gallery Hours: Wednesday-Saturday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Showcasing the work of John Benedict, Tory Devries, Mallory Randle, and Ted Silverman. A contemporary showroom for one of a kind furniture, paintings, sculpture and photographs.

Saguaro Artisans

215 N. Court. 792-3466. Gallery Hours: Mondays to Saturdays 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Sunday 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. The artists currently spotlighted through the month of August are Joy Holdread, displaying her latest pottery and Steven Swan, showcasing his collection of sandstone work.

The Screening Room

127 E. Congress St. Coordinated by MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art). The current show, “Icons” features the work of Coke Wisdom O’Neal through the summer. For more information please call 624-5019.

Temple Gallery

330 S. Scott, upstairs at the Temple of Music and Art. 624-7370. Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm., and prior to Arizona Theatre Company performances. The gallery is currently closed for the summer, but will open again in the fall.

3Falk Gallery

41 South 6th Ave. 628-9601. Summer Gallery Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and by appointment. www.3falk.com. “Gallery Mix” is a showcase of gallery artists currently featured through October 15. Also on exhibit is a collection of rare photographs taken in Jerusalem in the 1920s, recently rediscovered in 2001.

The Modern Hand

Located at Old Town Artisans, 186 N. Meyer. 620-1725. Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm., and Sunday, Noon to 5:00 pm. The gallery is closed in August, but will re-open on Tuesday, September 2, with a selection of paintings by Denise Grimes and Mary Theresa Dietz on display. Ceramic sculptures by Anne Gross will be shown as well.

Tucson Arts District Partnership Phantom Gallery

4 E. Congress St. http://www.tucsonartsdistrict.org. 624-9977. Office Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Artists featured in the office beginning August 20, through Monday, October 13, are Rand Carlson, and Ed Davenport. Carlson’s rarely seen Plein Aire paintings, and Davenport’s stone sculptures are featured. Rand Carlson is widely known for his cartoons, “Random Shots.” Davenport’s work has been shown in numerous galleries in Tucson and Tubac.

Tucson-Pima Public Library

(Joel D. Valdez Main Library) 101 N. Stone Ave. 791-4393. Parking is available in the underground garage off Alameda and Stone Avenue. Showing in the lobby is “And if the river calls.” A public art project created by local artists To-Ree-Nee Keiser and Patrick J. McArdle for Sun Tran’s Tohono Tadai Transit Center, located at River and Stone Avenue.  Colorful, vivid images, and poetic text are combined to create 10 beautiful banners. Currently featured in the gallery is “In Stitches: Humor In Contemporary Fiber Art” through Friday, August 15. Opening Saturday, August 16, through Monday September 15, is “Saguaro: Popular Image & Cultural Icon.”

WomanKraft Gallery

388 S. Stone Ave. 629-9976. Gallery Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Currently featured through August is, “Ruins.” The show spotlights visions of cultures that have come and gone, in a variety of media. Opening reception is Saturday, August 2, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Zoe Boutique

735 North 4th Ave. 740-1201. Open during regular business hours. Opening Saturday, August 23, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm is a show of watercolor paintings by Sergio Castrezana. His work reflects the conflicting perspectives of his Spanish/Mexican back round and strict catholic upbringing.
