American Theater Arts for Youth

Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway Blvd., (800)-523-4540, www.atafy.org. Two performances of the classic children’s show, “Aladdin,” will show on Wednesday, December 10, at 10:00am and 12:15pm.

“It Ain’t Nothin’ but the Blues” at The Temple of Music.

Arizona Theatre Company

The Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave., 622-2823, www.ArizonaTheatre.org. “It Ain’t Nothin’ but the Blues,” featuring the original Broadway cast and director. The co-production with Missouri Repertory Theatre takes a journey through the history of the blues—from Africa, to the Delta to the Windy City. The show continues through December 20.

Civic Orchestra performs December 7 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Live country and western music from the traveling country and western band of Chris Leone is on Tuesday, December 9, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Donations welcome.

Monolog Cabin

Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), 197 E. Toole Ave., 624-5019.
“Monolog Cabin,” is a first-person review of narratives and essays with attitude, written and performed by local and visiting humorists such as Steve Barancik, Carrie Seid Barancik, Charlotte Lowe-Bailey, Sybille Bruun, Faitha Lowe-Bailey, Margo Taylor and Lillian MacNeill. This one-night only performance will be held on Friday, December 5, at 8:00pm. Space is limited, so please reserve a seat with MOCA by calling the number above, or emailing info@moca-tucson.org.

Music Academy of Tucson

Holsclaw Recital Hall, University of Arizona.
As many as fifty Music Academy of Tucson students ranging in ages from 4 to 18 will showcase their musical talents at the annual Gala concert. Performances will include the cello, flute, guitar, piano, viola, violin, and voice. This event is free to the public, and takes place Saturday, December 13, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Rhythm and Roots

Proscenium Theater at Pima Community College, 2202 W. Anklam Rd.
Singer/songwriters Aliz Dobkin and Jamie Anderson play a rare double bill, pioneering their music with humor, compassion and intelligence. The show will take place on Friday, December 5 at 8:00pm. Advance tickets may be purchased at Antigone Books, Brew and Vine, Enchanted Earthworks, and Hear’s Music.

Tucson Parks and Recreation

“Cool Time,” will be performed Saturday, December 6, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm.

Tucson Symphony Orchestra

Tucson Convention Center Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave., 882-8585, www.TucsonSymphony.org. The classic series continues this month with “Classic Four: Featuring Olga Kern.” Pianist Olga Kern won the eleventh Van Cliburn competition. Performances are scheduled for December 4 and 5 at 8:00pm.

UA Presents

The Beauty in Dance series will showcase “Unlocking the Creative Process,” with choreographer Shen Wei. This show is free and open to the public at UA Aero and Mechanical engineering, Thursday December 4, 7:30pm. Shen Wei Dance Arts will perform “Rite of Spring and Folding,” Saturday, December 6, 8:00pm.

Wilde Playhouse

“Gross Indecency; The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde,” by Moises Kaufman, is about the late 19th century test case in Britain of the sodomite laws. Shows take place at 7:00pm, Wednesday through Saturday and

December 19.

Zeitgeist

Local new music presenter Zeitgeist continues its concert activities with a bevy of Tucson’s more interesting improvising ensembles. The all night event, titled Making It Up (in real time), ranges from creative adaptations of Latin rhythms to frenzied Balkan-inspire heavy metal, with local legends and underground heroes playing hour-long sets beginning at 7:00pm.

Organizers of the All Soul’s Procession invite you to experience the parade of thousands of souls one more time in an extraordinary video event. All proceeds from “Your Soul is Showing,” will pay for leftover mandatory police fees from the 2003 November 1st parade. The film will run Friday, December 12 at 7:30pm.
