Arizona Theatre Company

The Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott, 622-2823, www.arizonatheatre.org. The season continues strong with the Pulitzer Prize winning romance, “Talley’s Folly.” Directed by Andrew J. Traister, the tale centers around Matt Friedman arriving in Lebanon, Missouri from St. Louis to plead his love to Sally Talley, a 31-year-old woman who fears her socially prominent family would never approve of the marriage. The play runs from October 18 to November 8, and is a co-production with The Pasadena Playhouse.

Arizona Friends of Chamber Music

Leo Rich Theatre, Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave., 577-3769, www.arizonachambermusic.org. The non-profit begins its Evening Chamber Music Series on Tuesday, October 7, by welcoming back the Emerson String Quartet. Many consider the quartet to be the world’s great living quartet. Check out their web site at www.emersonquartet.com. The show starts at 8pm. The Piano & Friends matinee series opens on Sunday, October 19 at 3pm with Daniel Austrich, violin and Michael Buchman on piano.

Arizona Opera

Tucson Convention Center Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave., 293-4336, www.azopera.com. “The Pearl Fishers” opens the 2003-2004 season on Friday, October 10, 7:30pm. The opera is set in ancient Ceylon, where two pearl fishermen reminisce about the beautiful woman with whom they both fell in love. When this mysterious woman reappears, the two friends become rivals again, forcing them to consider which is the greater treasure, love or friendship? The opera also shows on Saturday October 11 at 7:30pm, and Sunday October 12 at 2:00pm.

Arizona Rose Theatre Company

Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway, 888-0509, www.arizonarose.cc. Their 18th season opens with the musical “Triple Threat,” direct from its sold out experience in LA’s NoHO Theatre District. The four performances are Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 at 8:00pm and Saturday October 25-Sunday October 26 at 2:00pm.

Desert Players Theatre

The Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott, 733-1076. The players present “Caught in the Net,” a tale of deception by Ray Cooney. The main character is a bigamist taxi driver, John Smith, with 2 families in two cities. When the siblings meet on the internet, they become determined to meet each other. Mayhem ensues as John struggles to hide the truth. The preview is Thursday, October 9, 8:00pm. The play runs October 10-11, 17-18 at 8:00pm and October 12 and 19 at 1:30pm.

Disney on Ice Princess Classics

Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave., 791-4101 http://www.ci.tucson.az.us/tcc/. Disney on Ice presents Princess Classics, a magnificent production of romance, fun and adventure. The production starts Wednesday October 22 and runs through Sunday October 26.

Invisible Theatre Company

Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway, 882-9721, www.invisibletheatre.tripod.com. The Reduced Shakespeare Company presents “All the Great Books” (abridged), Friday, October 10-Saturday October 11. The world’s great books explode as the bad boys of abridgement return to Tucson to unleash a brand-new comic outrage!

“LaLaLUNA,” by Wolfe Bowart, will fly you to the moon!

Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway, 882-9721. Forgot the worries of the world and immerse yourself in Tucson native Wolfe Bowart’s fanciful tale of hope and wonder in a setting where gravity thumbs its nose at Sir Issac Newton. “It’s a surrealist dream that’s a family show,” Bowart says of LaLaLuna. You will have two chances to catch the show before it moves to Australia, at 3:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturday October 18. Tickets are available at the door for a suggested donation of $10. Tucson Symphony Orchestra

Way Back Playback Theatre

Historic Stone Avenue Temple, 564 S. Stone Ave., 670-9073. The performers from Tucson Playback Theatre will be presenting this original form of improvisational theatre at the beautifully restored Stone Avenue Temple on Saturday, October 4th starting at 7:00pm. “Tellers” from the audience will share stories based on their long ties to the Tucson community and the performers will enact them in a way that honors people’s stories.
