An Evening of Deconstructing Chicano Satire

Award-winning satirist, artist, political cartoonist, hell-raiser and trailblazer Lalo Alcaraz is coming to Tucson for a special one-night only event at the YWCA, 525 N. Bonita Ave., on Thursday, Sept. 24. The free event starts at 7 p.m., a reception follows in the YWCA courtyard. Registration is required at YWCATucson.org
Alcaraz is well-known as the man behind the first nationally-syndicated, politically-themed Latino daily comic strip, “La Cucaracha,” seen in scores of newspapers including the Los Angeles Times. “La Cucaracha” is syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate, which is also the home of “Doonesbury” and “The Boondocks.” Lalo has produced editorial cartoons for the L.A. Weekly since 1992 and also creates editorial cartoons in English and Spanish for Universal. His work has appeared in the New York Times, The Village Voice, the Los Angeles Times, Variety, Hispanic Magazine, Latina Magazine, Mexico’s La Jornada, Germany’s BUNTE and many other publications.
