ARIZONA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL: MANY BONES, ONE HEART

The Tucson community is invited to the Opening Night Celebration of the 24th Arizona International Film Festival (April 9-26) at The Rialto Theatre, 318 East Congress, on Thursday April 9 from 6 -10 PM. Admission is $10, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the 2015 All Souls Procession.
Sponsored by the Arizona Media Arts Center and The Rialto Theatre, the world premiere screening of Many Bones, One Heart by Tucsonan Leslie Ann Epperson will give a dynamic startto the Festival, which offers screenings of 120 feature-length and short films from 22 countries at exhibition venues downtown from April 9-26.
Many Bones, One Heart explores the forging of a cultural tradition, a costumed parade honoring the dead, the All SoulsProcession in Tucson. Thisrevealing documentary began as an intimate ritual of mourning started by artist Susan Kay Johnson and became a ceremony to honor the deadfor an entire community. The story focuses on artist-organizers Nadia Hagen and Paul Weir as they struggle to preserve the integrity of the grassroots event, despite its growing size.
Leslie Ann Epperson has received Rocky Mountain Regional Emmy Awards for directing, writing and editing Divine Mission San Xavier del Bac. During 15 years with PBS affiliates, Epperson’s documentaries have been broadcast nationwide. One of Epperson’s experimental narratives, Space of a Breath was selected for the AZ 100 Indie Film collection celebrating Arizona’s Centennial.
