Art Now! – Non-Stop Poetry: The Zines of Mark Gonzales
November 13, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm| $10.
MOCA curator Jocko Weyland will discuss the newly published Non Stop Poetry: The Zines of Mark Gonzales, a comprehensive presentation of the zines made by Gonzales from the early-’90s to the present day.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest skateboarders of all time, Gonzales also deserves equal recognition as an artist and poet. With reproductions from 145 zines, this assiduously compiled compendium demonstrates his remarkable gift for verse and drawing, and links his colored ephemeral pamphlets to a notable tradition of artist-made publications stretching from Ed Ruscha to Raymond Pettibon.
Also included are an introduction by Kim Gordon, along with essays by Maurizio Cattelan, Harmony Korine, Tom Sachs, and others. Using his contribution to the book (an essay entitled “When I die Carreie My Corps Across The Small Stream”) as a jumping-off point, Weyland will expand on Gonzales’ prolific output and the wider world of self-published expression.
Admission includes wine, beer, snacks and great conversation
