Don Cheek and the Cheektones at Hotel Congress
November 28, 2015 @ 7:00 pm| $10
The CheekTones are a Prescott band playing a spirited mix of original tunes and unusual covers, with a dash of rock standards. The ‘Tones defy categories, stirring up tasty versions of tunes across the spectrum, from John Hiatt to Winery Dogs, from Bob Schneider to Bob Dylan, from the Jackson Five to Jerry Riopelle. And their infectious originals — a blend of blues, folk, Americana, rock ‘n’ roll and good-time jams — reveal irresistible grooves and sharp lyrics, ranging from tales of loss to sweet anthems of life.
Led by singer and guitarist Don Cheek, The CheekTones have played northern Arizona since forming in February of 2007. Featuring the wild interplay of Ines Vitols’ violin and Drew Hall’s lead guitar, the band’s rich vocal harmonies soar across the solid rhythms of Marty Love’s bass and Gary Ukura’s drums. In February of this year, they released their sophomore CD, Second Chance At A First Impression, an eclectic set of songs written by Don offering an earful of grooves and lyrics that move your mind, your heart — and your feet.
