JP Harris and the Tough Choices, The Honkytonk Underground
Club Congress transports itself back to the good ole days when the Rodeo Parade went right through downtown and several of the main bars were western themed. It will be a night of classic country and pure honkytonk music, so bring on your cowboy hats and boots.
From Nashville will be JP Harris the the Tough Choices. JP’s style is classic country molded after his heroes Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell. For a man only in his twenties, he has lived way beyond his years. His hard times and travels, have become fodder for his country songwriting. He’s not ashamed to be heartbroke or down on his luck, and as you can imagine, those are recurring themes on his brand new release on Cow Island Music titled I’ll Keep Calling. Recorded in Louisiana, with help from the Red Stick Ramblers, the album is chauked full of country shuffles, heartbreak ballads and truck driving tunes, all written by JP himself.
Opening the show will be Tucson’s country music super group, the Honkytonk Underground. Formed at the end of last year to open for Lucky Tubb, the band is the mastermind of Mike Hebert (Kings of Pleasure) and Jeb Schoonover, (roots music promoter.) The idea was to congregate several like minded musicians whose main purpose is the propagation of the idea that real honkytonk music can be played and promoted in Tucson.
