Oliver Ray: Sound Space Light

Oliver Ray is a poet and musician who grew up in New York City and has lived in Tucson for the last six years. He was the assistant editor of Hanuman Press, had a long-term association with the Patti Smith Band, and currently plays guitar and sings in his own outfit Saint Maybe, as well in Trans Van Santos.
This performance by Ray and his cohorts is inspired by the4 avant-garde composer Henry Flynt, particularly his violin drone works, and is also a commemoration of the fifty-second anniversary of Thích Quảng Đức’s ultimate sacrifice of self-immolation in protest against persecution of Buddhist monks and the intersection Phan Đình Phùng Boulevard and Lê Văn Duyệt Street in Saigon on June 11th, 1963.
