The legendary co-founder of Folk-Rock band, The Byrds, famous for their hits “Tambourine Man” and “Turn! Turn! Turn!” brings his talent as a solo guitar player and folk artist to the Fox for an intimate evening of song and storytelling.
Roger McGuinn entered the music scene at the height of folk music popularity, performing and recording with the Limeliters, Chad Mitchell Trio and Bobby Darin. Armed with his signature Rickenbacker 12 String guitar he then made the transition to Folk-Rock by adding a rock beat to the folk music he so loved. This new direction led to the formation of one of the most influential bands of the 60’s –The Byrds (McGuinn, Gene Clark, David Crosby, and later Michael Clark and Chris Hillman). The Byrds enjoyed immeasurable success until disbanding in 1973.
McGuinn then embarked on a solo career releasing five solo albums and then returned to his folk roots in the 1980’s. In the mid 1990’s he began recording and uploading to the internet traditional folk songs, which McGuinn made available for free download. The Folk Den project, was intended to preserve and make available to everyone traditional folk music, lyrics, and completed recordings. In 2002, McGuinn decided to record and release a CD with his favorite songs from the project and was honored with a Grammy nomination for Treasures From The Folk Den. Camilla McGuinn, who blogs on the McGuinn Roadie Report, shared that “(w)hen Roger performs concerts we are very aware that folks come to hear songs that were the sound track of their lives. Everyday at lunch we discuss the upcoming show and discuss what songs and stories he will perform.” Expect a unique, handpicked playlist, from his huge catalog of songs and stories, when McGuinn takes the Fox stage!
