Stefan George

One of Tucson’s best-loved singer/songwriters, Stefan George has won award after award for his evocative songwriting and luminous guitar playing.

He was a New Folk Award Finalist at the Kerrville (Texas) Folk Festival in 1996, a Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour Finalist in 1996, and a Tucson Area Music (TAMMY) award winner in 1994, 1995 and 1997 — with 1997 awards in Best Songwriter, Best Solo Acoustic Performer and Best Acoustic Ensemble categories. In addition, this versatile musician hosted the “Blues Summit” at the 1997 Kerrville Folk Festival and has been invited back to Kerrville ever since. Stefan was a featured Showcase artist at South By Southwest in 1991 and 1994. He has also performed in concert with David Wilcox, Norman Blake, Bill Miller, Rory Block and Bill Morrissey, to name but a few.

RAW:Tucson presents SOLSTICE

RAW events are multi-faceted artistic showcases. Each event features a musical performance, fashion show, art gallery, performance art and a featured hairstylist and makeup artist. These artists are all local, hand-picked talent who have been chosen to feature at RAW.

Cinema La Placita

Since April 2000, Cinema La Placita has been showing classic films, outdoors in the lovely plaza setting of La Placita Village. All films begin at 7:30pm each Thursday evening, May through October. $3-per-person admission includes popcorn. All proceeds contribute directly to the programming of the series. Cinema La Placita, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

La Placita Village is located at the southwest corner of Broadway and Church Avenue in downtown Tucson. Ample parking is available in the La Placita Parking Garage located on Stone Avenue just south of Broadway. Chairs are provided, but guests are welcome to bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Restaurants of La Placita Village are available for dining and refreshments. Alcohol is not permitted in the plaza.
