The event will be held at Maracana Sports Center\, 555 E 18th St.\, 9am-9pm\, beginning with National Bank of AZ All-Arizona Refugee Soccer Tournament with refugee teams from all of Arizona competing for top honors. Cultural events begin at 2pm with Learning A-Z Kids Corner activities\, Global Village food & culture exhibits\, vendors and musical performances featuring the Arizona Symphonic Winds conducted by Hungarian immigrant Laslo Veres. At 3pm a special citizenship ceremony will be held by USCIS\, the United States Citizen & Immigration Services. At 5pm an open ‘Tucson's Got Talent Show’ will showcase refugee musicians\, dancers\, performers and poets. The 6pm – 9pm evening program will feature the NBAZ Soccer Tournament award ceremony\, main stage performances including drumming & dancing from Burundi to Bhutan & Brazil\, arts & crafts displays from refugees around the world\, as well as educational booths\, ethnic food\, and interactive multi-lingual children’s activities. Attendees can try to take the US Citizenship quiz and learn to speak one of 50 different languages in the Global Village. These activities provide our community an opportunity to have fun and share their cultural heritage while engaging Tucsonans in both local and global humanitarian issues. The event is free. A suggested donation of $1 or any amount will be gratefully accepted. Food\, crafts and cultural goods will be offered for sale supporting many refugee micro-businesses and non-profits such as Somali Bantu Association of Tucson\, Bhutanese Mutual Assistance Association\, Iskashitaa Refugee Harvesting\, Sewing & Crafts\, Laos Students Association\, and Tucson International Alliance of Refugee Communities (TIARC). This year organizers hope to create even greater excitement around soccer. Maracana Indoor Sports Arena is owned and operated by Mladan Kovach\, a Bosnian refugee. Teams representing Bosnia\, Liberia\, Somalia\, Sudan\, Iraq\, Burundi and Bhutan are expected to be highly competitive. National Bank of Arizona is underwriting the Soccer tournament and other local businesses will support the event including CBRE\, La Frontera Arizona and Diamond Eye Care. Learning A-Z\, a Tucson based global educational resource company is providing support for Kids Corner. Tucson World RefugeeFEST 2012 is a volunteer driven project that seeks to build capacity among Tucson based MAAs - Mutual Assistance Associations. The Somali Bantu Association of Tucson Arizona (SBATA) has stepped forward to be this year's festival fiscal sponsor. Co-Chair of RefugeeFEST\, Megan Fabry\, Volunteer coordinator at SBATA\, has brought dynamic energy to the organizing committee. “The Tucson World RefugeeFEST is all about connection–between the community\, the refugees\, and the diverse set of cultures we have here in Tucson. The start/finish and staging area is in Downtown Tucson\, on Church Avenue immediately north of Congress\, between the Downtown library and the Court House\, just like last year.  You can see the online half-marathon route including the elevation chart at mapmyrun.com here.  The Tucson Lifestyle 5k route encompasses Downtown and Fourth Avenue.  The 5k route is here. There will be cash for winners\, raffles for all\, age group awards\, and plenty of post-race food and drink.  All participants receive a technical shirt. Mission: The mission is to develop regional fitness and health\, enhance Tucson tourism\, promote Downtown\, and raise funds for local non-profits by putting on a big-city half-marathon. The band is Genevieve & the LP’s; the YMCA will have a wide range of intergenerational exercise activities; there will be a kids run; LaTanya Sheffield and her Olympic Extravaganza will provide children’s activities. Start Times 6:30 AM start for the half-marathon 6:45 AM start for the 5k race and family friendly walk Race Distances and Courses The Half-Marathon route will include A-Mountain\, the Santa Cruz Riverpath\, and streets of Downtown Tucson.  The 3.1 mile out and back course will let you share the fun—through the Fourth Avenue Underpass\, and up and down Fourth Avenue\, with a finish along Congress.  The half-marathoners will be doing this final 5k as well.  Special thanks to the Arizona Department of Transportation for allowing us access to the the St. Mary’s Underpass at I-10 and to the City of Tucson for all their help with the route planning. Southwest Airlines’ in-flight magazine\, Spirit (June 2001) named El Tour de Tucson “one of the premier organized rides in United States\,” and Bicycling Magazine (October 2002) ranked El Tour as “one of the top three fundraising rides” in the country. The Participants Cyclists enjoy El Tour and its festivities simply due to their passion for cycling\, while others choose the event as part of a healthy lifestyle change or even as part of their wellness program as a survivor from cancer or other life-threatening illness. Many are attracted to El Tour’s fundraising programs for its many charitable agencies\, for which the event raised over $1\,627\,210 in 2010. What all riders of El Tour share is a desire to get on their bikes\, meet great people and have a fun time doing it! The Routes Participants may cycle 109\, 79\, 66 or 40 miles\, plus the 6\, 3 & 1/4- mile Diamond Children’s Fun Ride presented by McDonald’s\, open to all abilities. Main event routes showcase scenic areas of Tucson\, with beautiful vistas of its local mountain ranges - three rising over 9\,000 feet- complete with the backdrop of the mighty Saguaro cactus\, icon of the Southwest’s Sonoran Desert. Course profiles can be rolling to moderately hilly\, though the 40-mile route is basically flat and is a  family affair or for beginners!  Two often dry but sandy river crossings will greet 109-mile riders\, while 79 cyclists experience just one. No crossings for the 66 & 40-mile participants. All routes offer aid stations\, spaced each 7-12 miles\, full police support at intersections and plenty of morale-boosting volunteers and spectators. The Fun Rideoffers an exciting 6-mile route and an easy 3-mile route\, highlighting special cultural aspects of downtown Tucson. The Finish The 109-mile startline (and finish line for all events) is located at Armory Park\, across the street from the Children’s Museum in downtown Tucson at the corner of S. 6th Avenue at 13th Street. Upon crossing the finishline at the end of their ride\, cyclists collect a special finisher’s medallion to commemorate their accomplishment.  El Tour’s Downtown Fiesta will be in Armory park featuring  food vendors\, kids activities\, the Michelob Ultra Beer Garden\, El Tour Perimeter Store merchandise booth\, and non-stop music and celebration throughout the day! The Alternative The Lemond Fitness Indoor El Tour is a stationary cycling event – no traffic\, no safety hazards\, no headwinds\, but still loads of fun. Ride for minutes instead of miles while supporting Perimeter Bicycling charities and receive a special medallion. Indoor El Tour begins one week prior to the main event and may be ridden on any stationary bike or at the finishline on Ride Day.
