A key urban revitalization project is done and it’s time to celebrate. The new Fourth Avenue Underpass opens today. Some aesthetic work will continue on the project, but the byway will be open to traffic starting today.
The opening of the underpass is a major boon to area businesses and residents as it signals the reconnection of core entertainment districts and neighborhoods.
To celebrate, businesses and organizations from Downtown, Fourth Avenue and Main Gate Square are throwing a party! The Downtown Tucson Partnership, Fourth Avenue Merchants Association and Main Gate Square are working collaboratively on the celebration. Here is a schedule of events. For more information, call 837-6508.
Scheduled events are FREE, unless otherwise noted.
3-3:30 p.m.: Leila Lopez
3:30-4 p.m.: Seven Pipers
4-5 p.m. Opening ceremony in the underpass – featuring Mayor Bob Walkup, City Council members and other dignitaries. Other participants include the Seven Pipers, antique cars, hot rods and the Old Pueblo Trolley.
