El Rio Health Provides Testing for Downtown Ambassadors

DOWNTOWN TUCSON, AZ, May 19, 2020 – Professionals from El Rio Health provided COVID-19 testing for the Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) Clean and Safe team last Thursday. DTP is thrilled to announce that all tests came back negative and 23 healthy crew members remain on the streets.

“The team from the Downtown Tucson Partnership takes such great care of all of us as well as our businesses and environments every day, we want to be sure they have easy access to COVID-19 testing and any needed follow-up,” said Nancy Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of El Rio Health. “They can also be great public health messengers for us with their daily presence in the community.”

DTP Safety Ambassadors continue to keep a watchful eye on downtown properties and public spaces, reminding visitors to practice social distancing, educating homeless individuals about resources and self-care, and imparting a sense of calm. DTP Safety Ambassadors have bicycles and golf carts to allow quicker response and visibility, patrolling 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

DTP Maintenance Ambassadors pick up trash, report and remove graffiti, maintain 200 city planters, and wipe down benches, bike racks and other high-contact surfaces in public spaces. Both teams are cross-trained and will continue to work together with a focus on litter removal, cleaning, sanitizing hard surfaces, and public safety.

“We’re so grateful to El Rio Health and all the amazing health-care workers, first responders, and other essential personnel who bravely provide COVID-19 testing and immediate treatment for those with the virus,” said Kathleen Eriksen, DTP President and CEO. “El Rio Health has given our team peace of mind so we can continue caring for downtown, creating a welcoming, safe and beautiful environment for Tucsonans when they are ready to return.”
