The Tryst

The Tryst attracts the descriptive “eclectic” like Tucson gets tagged “dry.” It’s just the way it is. And who are we to refute the obvious? But while for some bands the adjective intones a mash-up of genres, The Tryst navigates the listener from jazz to soul with a gentle hand.

From 1998 through the early aughts, Laswell was frontman for the San Diego-based band Shillglen. Members of the band included Chad Lansford (backing vocals and guitar), Justin Skeesuck (guitar), Michael de Neve (bass), Marcel de Neve (drums) and Matt Mintz (lead guitar). The band released one album, titled “Sometimes I Feel,” in late 1999 and had some moderate success when the band was nominated for Best Alternative Album and Best Alternative Band at the San Diego Music Awards in 2000. By mid 2001, Shillglen had over 400,000 downloads of their music through MP3.com. However, Shillglen quietly disbanded in October 2001 after Laswell suggested the band take a break. The band mutually agreed, but never regrouped…

Elizabeth Ziman wrote her first song at age six, banging out melodies on an old upright in a Greenwhich Village laundry room. A born romantic, Elizabeth transformed the music of Debussy, molding it to the driving rhythms of the washer and dryer…

Silverbell

Silverbell brings a unique edge to what might be called “country”. Thus…alternative country. Not to be confused with pure country.

FERRODYNE was initially formed in 2007 by Doug Smith, Chris Byrne and Liza Byrne in Portland, Oregon. The trio moved back to Tucson, their hometown, in 2008.

Signals

SIGNALS started up in 2011 after previous bands had broken up, with the members eagerly pursuing new opportunities and a new sound.

Phillip Yancey (vocals and guitar), Ezra Hagberg (bass and backup vocals), and Mike Smith (drums) all come from a background of music, with a number of years experience in bands and doing studio work.

SIGNALS music style (labeled by some as post-hardcore) is driven by a wall of sound, with each song containing distinctive riffs, brutally honest lyrics, and a high energy that is definitely visible in their live show.

Their debut album, “Guided Missiles and Misguided Men” (The title being taken from a quote by Martin Luther King Jr.), releasing June 2, 2012, is a concept album looking at the brokenness of man and our struggle with the evil that so easily creeps into our hearts. Although most of the lyrics may come across as dark, there is still a redemptive note that can be found within the lyrics, as they look at how God may respond to our depravity and what hope could be found there.
