2nd Saturdays expands to new 5th Avenue stage

Brice Winston, who currently tours with Grammy Award winning artist Terence Blanchard, will join Kevin and Tanishia Hamilton of Southwest Soul Celebration on Nov. 12 at 2nd Saturdays new entertainment stage on 5th Avenue and Congress Street.

Winston, a saxophonist/composer/educator currently residing in Tucson, has been touring and recording all over the world, performing in countless major jazz festivals and clubs. Also, joining the new 5th Avenue stage will be local singer, songwriter Celena Santa Cruz and Arianna Douglas.

The Winston concert starts at 6:30 p.m.

Headlining the Fox Theatre will be the Up with People cast of 100 young people from 19 countries.  The show starts at 7:00pm.  Cost is $10 general admission.

There will also be an opportunity to catch all 100 cast members in an interactive parade during the family friendly 2nd Saturdays festival.  Dressed in the fashion of their country, they will mingle on the sidewalks of Congress Street just before show time.   

Featured on the Scott Avenue Stage:

6 to 7:15 p.m.: Spirit Familia –  a high energy dance band that combines Latin, reggae and funk.

7:30 to 8:45 p.m.: Planet Jam –  rippin’ rock solos, poppin’ reggae rhythms and fresh Gypsy licks, dubby and tight, modern with ancient tap roots.

9 to 10:15 p.m.: Kristen Chandler – The upbeat three-piece bands gets the crowds moving with a combination of blues, funk, soul and doses of rock and roll.

CenturyLink presents: Mars and Beyond.  This exhibition is dedicated to offering rotating science-based programs to Tucson and all of Arizona.  2nd Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Check discounts, other dates and hours at www.sciencedowntown.org

A sold out performance by Mac Miller. 

The Cricket Kids’ Area remains a fun spot for the family.  On hand will be the Cricket Jumping Castle and other activities sure to entertain, including the FREE G-rated movie, “Cars.”  The movie begins at around 6:30 or 7 p.m.

The street scene will be hopping with car clubs, musicians, “jukebox” statues and vendors.  Many downtown businesses will offer specials. 

2nd Saturdays Downtown runs from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.  Sponsors are  Bank of Tucson, Jim Click Automotive Team, Cricket, Carondelet Health Network, KOLD Channel 13, KHYT/KIIM Radio, KXCI 91.3FM Community Radio, MEB Property Management and Providence Service Corp.
