Hotel Congress Hosts the First Beer Cup Competition

September 10, 2012

Following the success of the sold out summer beer tastings and dinners, Hotel Congress debuts the first annual Born & Brewed: Tucson’s Beer Cup to celebrate Tucson’s best barley and hops on Friday, Sept. 21, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Local breweries will go “head to head” to win the people’s choice vote for best brew in Tucson.

Nimbus, Borderlands, Dragoon, Thunder Canyon, Barrio and 1702 will bring two of their best beers for the public to sample.

The public will then decide who wins the honor of having “Tucson’s Best Beer.” Winners will receive a handle in the Tap Room at Hotel Congress for a year, plus a giant trophy to display until it’s passed on to next year’s winner.

In addition to the beers, plenty of gourmet beer snacks will be on hand (complimentary and some for purchase) to nosh; plus country rock tunes to keep the party going.

Cost of $20 per person ($25 day of) includes a keepsake pilsner glass for tasting, 12 tastes of beer, and complimentary snacks.  Tickets available online or at the Hotel Congress front desk. Tickets are limited and this event is expected to sell out.

The Born & Brewed event coincides with the new Growl ‘n’ Go program at Maynards Market.  Due to a change in Arizona State Liquor laws, beer aficionados can purchase and fill their own growlers with their favorite beer on tap at any bar or liquor store.

Maynards Market will be selling their own growlers, starting on Sept. 22, featuring the winner of “Tucson’s Best Beer” as the first beer on tap.
