Running a 5k isn’t always about winning.

Sometimes it’s just about laughing with friends, getting some exercise, and … being splattered with non-toxic, environmentally friendly, colorful powder. In Color Vibe runs it is, anyway.

Color Vibe offers scores of fun runs across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Asia, and on Nov. 14 they’re bringing their corn-starch canons to the Tucson Convention Center.

Yes, corn starch. That’s how Color Vibe powders participants with the rainbow hues you might have seen.

The concept is simple – bring together people for a fun race around Downtown that includes four zones where runners are doused with blue, yellow, red, green and purple powder.

There’s a dance party at the finish line, and a rock-climbing wall will be provided by Rock It Up. Water will be provided thanks to Belfor Property restoration.

Costumes are encouraged, as are kids, who run free up to age 12 with a registered adult.

A few notes about Color Vibe powder:
Wear white for the best color effect.
Although it is non-toxic, wear glasses to avoid getting it in your eyes, and cover toddlers’ eyes and mouths.
Although the powder can be easily vacuumed from a car, cover seats to be safe.
If you want more color, run closer to the color canons, for less color, run farther away.

Registration costs $65 through Sept. 13, then $75 the day of the race. Children through age 12 will be charged only an unspecified processing fee, if they register with a paid adult. T-shirts are available for purchase at the race or through the Color Vibe website at, where you can also register.
