Lash Factor Studio Brings Health and Beauty Downtown

Downtown has its fair share of businesses that beautify Tucsonans. The salons and barbershops are top-notch, but until recently if you were looking for a more specialized style Downtown, you were out of luck. Fortunately, Downtown has just welcomed its most specialized beauty shop yet. Lash Factor Studios and Beauty Club has established itself on the corner of 5th and Broadway, bringing professional eyebrow, lash, and skin maintenance to the neighborhood.
Owner Kellie Hernandez considers herself incredibly lucky to have found the Downtown space she’s in, and is quick to point out the building’s history as Tucson’s Studebaker dealership in the early 20th century as just part of why she loves it. Her business is now in what was once the garage of the dealership (you can still see where the roll-up window once was). She hopes to expose the currently whitewashed brick walls in the renovations she’s currently doing, bringing out more of the history of the space.
Kellie has been in the brow and lash business for 5 years, running her business almost entirely through a referral system. She has built her success on the knowledge that the aesthetics industry is constantly changing, and to stand out one, has to be on the cutting edge of what the industry has to offer.
“My goal from the beginning has been to bring the newest trends to Tucson and have others follow,” she says.
And those trends she brought are becoming the new standard. Lash Factor specializes and in – and was the first in Tucson – to offer a form of semi-permanent lash extensions called volume lashes, applying 2-6 extensions on each lash where previously it was only possible to fit one. The process results in a set of eyelashes ranging from naturalistic to dramatic that completely eliminates the need for mascara, while preserving the natural health of the lash. Kellie and her staff are masters of the art. She’s proud to say they’ve cut what’s usually a 2 to 3-hour process down to about a half-hour.
Additionally, she provides eyebrow extensions and waxings which, like her lash extensions, are done a little differently than in most waxing parlors. Kellie offers a sugar waxing method, one of the oldest forms of hair removal on Earth. As opposed to regular hair-removal wax, sugar wax contains more natural ingredients, making it better suited for sensitive skin and less likely to trigger allergic reactions.
Though most of her clientele tend to be Downtown professionals looking to refine their style, the service has a deeper meaning for some customers. Much of the work Lash Factor does is with corrective skin care—evening out the effects of aging or skin conditions.
But even closer to Kellie’s heart is the work Lash Factor does with cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. A breast cancer survivor herself, Kellie sympathizes hugely with the effects of chemo that are often forgotten about. Though the havoc that chemo can wreak on hair is common knowledge, it’s easy to forget that that hair loss includes eyelashes and brows, which you can’t exactly fix with a wig. For these customers, Kellie provides naturalistic semi-permanent lashes and brows, helping soothe the physical trauma of cancer.
Kellie’s personal experiences with the therapeutic benefits of beauty are at the core of all the work she does. To Kellie, health is never supplemental to any beautification process. She believes that they should complement each other, and brings that philosophy to her work.
“I really believe in the product that I have,” she says. “I would not put on anyone else anything I wouldn’t put on myself.”
