G.U.T Block Party on Broadway Downtown

The Gastronomic Union of Tucson (G.U.T) is pulling out all the stops for their final event of the summer with The Block Party on Broadway on Sunday, October 1st from 3-6pm.   The G.U.T dinner series presented over the summer featured various themes of whole hog preparation and all were sell out successes.  Celebrating “Local” is the driving force behind this group of Tucson’s top chefs.

The Block Party on Broadway, a gustatory extravaganza, will take place in the parking lot of the Carriage House in downtown Tucson located on the corner of Broadway and Arizona Avenue.  The event will feature 4 whole locally raised pigs prepared by four chefs in their signature styles.  Chef Matt Cable from Fresco Pizza will smoke his, Chef Michael Elefante from Mama Louisa’s will fix his “Porcetta” style,  Chef Obie from the Mountain Oyster Club will offer a Caja China (box roasted) preparation and  Chef Gary Hickey from Charro Steak will cook his on a spit over a mesquite fire. There will also be a wide array of side dishes and desserts prepared by 20 local chefs as well as beer samples from four local breweries; Barrio Brewing, Crooked Tooth, Dillinger and Pueblo Vida.  Live entertainment will be provided by DJ Herm and DJ Alias.  A percentage of the proceeds from the Block Party on Broadway will go to TEDxTucson. 

Tickets are $40.00 for adults and $12.50 for kids under 15.  Adult tickets are $40 each and include all you can eat and four beer samples.  Kids get all they can eat for $12.50.  Tickets can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-block-party-on-broadway-tickets-37369119041?aff=ehomesaved

G.U.T is a Union of local Chefs working to further education and give back to Tucson’s diverse culinary community through responsible agriculture and locally sourced ingredients. It is a collaboration of over 30 chefs and food professionals who came together following Tucson’s designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, to foster a culinary community of creativity, professional development and community engagement. Their goal is to educate the public that our dynamic food scene is more than its exceptional restaurants; it includes seed banks, food banks, community gardens, the 4000 year agricultural history, farmers markets, breweries, wineries, distillers, ranches,  growers, food writers, and most importantly the Tucson community that supports them. G.U.T seeks to bring these elements together both to honor our food heritage, and to foster culinary innovation and creative exchange.
