Downtown Links is an improvement project funded by the Regional Transportation Authority and partnered with the Tucson Department of Transportation, designed and constructed by HDR, that will provide enhancements, benefits, and connections for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. The three major benefits of this alignment include: Railroad-related improvements, new roadway drainage systems, and more multi-modal connections. Phase III of the project will connect Barraza-Aviation Parkway from Broadway Blvd to 6th St and offer an alternate route around the downtown core to Interstate 10. This phase includes a new four lane road north of the train tracks, improved drainage, bike lanes, multi-use paths, new bridges, public art and a deck plaza above the future underpass on 6th St.

On January 15th, Tucson Department of Transportation gave a stakeholder update regarding the third phase of Downtown Links. Updates included scaling down the proposed Deck Plaza, several areas of the multi-use path, various structural elements, landscaping, and aesthetic treatments to make the project financially feasible within the original budget. Phase III is expected to start December 2019 and will take approximately 24-30 months.
