Like so many in our community and across the country, the Downtown Tucson Partnership is deeply disturbed by the tragic loss of George Floyd and support the peaceful expression of our community members to publicly grieve, voice their thoughts and opinions, and demand justice. As an organization made up of businesses and non-profits located in Downtown Tucson, we have worked tirelessly to create an environment that not only encourages peaceful demonstration but gives our citizens a place to stage it.

Given this mission, it was incredibly distressing this past weekend when the downtown we created to welcome all, became the victim of a few vandals that did not represent the good intentions of peaceful protesters.  The vandalism perpetrated on our local, downtown businesses compounded the already deep damage that these businesses have been enduring throughout the COVID19 pandemic.  Our hope is one of constructing downtown, not destructing, and we are vehemently against the violence that has occurred.

As our organization continues to support the many needs of our merchants throughout these unprecedented times, we ask that the our fellow Tucsonans support one another, along with the businesses that make this community so strong, through actions and expressions of compassion and kindness.

The health and safety of downtown has always been our number one priority, and we will continue to do what we have done everyday in our neighborhood, be good neighbors. If there is anything that the Downtown Tucson Partnership can do for you during this time, please let us know.

In the meantime, we will continue caring for downtown. We will clean up, we will rebuild, and we will continue to forge positivity and relationships that make Tucson a beautiful place to live and work for all. I can assure you that when the time is right and we begin to reopen Downtown Tucson, our merchants will be ready for your patronage, your visits, and your commerce.
