Art Now! with Amanda Cachia

May 24 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Event Navigation

Amanda Cachia will discuss her critical dis/ability curatorial practice, and her approach to the politics of creative access. The idea is to advance a curatorial model for a contemporary art exhibition that can be made accessible to an array of complex embodiments, where, for example, American Sign Language, captioning, and written and audio translations of sound and image are embedded into the material, structural and conceptual aspects of the exhibition. The presentation will include an overview of Cachia’s recently curated exhibitionsand a preview of her upcoming exhibition at the Owens Art Gallery at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, which opens in Fall, 2018, entitled, Automatisme Ambulatoire: Hysteria, Imitation, Performance. Cachia has curated over forty exhibitions, many of which iterate disability politics in contemporary art. She is an Assistant Professor of Art History at Moreno Valley College in Riverside, California, and director of the new Moreno Valley College Art Gallery, scheduled to open in fall 2018

ArtNow! gives you the opportunity to engage with wildly disparate practices collectively known as “the art of our time” during this playful lecture series. All lectures are FREE for MOCA members, non-members $10. Admission includes light snacks and refreshments.
