Big Read Visual Art Inspired by Poe

April 4, 2016

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00am on Monday, repeating until April 28, 2016

| Free

From Sept 2015 through May 2016, local organizations — including the Loft Cinema, the Poetry Center, and public libraries — have been hosting exciting and diverse events, programs, and activities designed to bring Poe to life for all as part of the Big Read Connects Tucson. In January, the Pima County Public Library and the Tucson Pima Arts Council invited youth and adults (ages 11+) to submit visual art for a multi-media show inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and his work.

We’re happy to announce we’ve received nearly 180 pieces of artwork, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, photography and digital art! Many individual artists sent in submissions and several schools participated, including: Tucson High School, Presidio Charter School, Khalsa Montessori Middle School, Mountain View High School, Compass High School, and Arts for All.

Selected works will be displayed in the gallery spaces of the Joel D Valdez Main Library and the lobby of the Pioneer Building April 4-28, 2016. They will be available for viewing during normal building hours.
