Event Navigation

Tucson, AZ—The final stop on Janos Wilder’s 2019 Downtowns Around the Globe: Sister Cities of Gastronomy is Burgos, Spain.  Designated by Spain as the Spanish Gastronomy Capital in 2013 and recognized by UNESCO as a World City of Gastronomy in 2015, Burgos has a long and rich history and cuisine that celebrates tradition while also leading in cutting-edge cuisine. In this northern Spanish city on the crossroads of Camino Santiago, where many medieval churches, palaces, and cathedrals remain, the roughly 180,000 Burgalesas – people who call Burgos home – enjoy a reputation as a city of great charcuterie and roasted meats, a much savored local cheese Queso de Burgos, and despite being inland, some outstanding fish dishes such as bacalao a la burgalesa. From small-bite pinchos, tapas, and montaditos to grand festival day feasts, Burgos delivers an exaltation of food which can be enjoyed at Chef Wilder’s DOWNTOWN Kitchen + Cocktails and at the Carriage House.

The Burgos menu created by Chef Wilder and his culinary team, will be along with the regular menu at DOWNTOWN  Kitchen + Cocktails beginning on Tuesday, August 20th.  For those who want an in- depth look at the flavors and culinary history of Burgos, Chef Wilder will hold a demonstration cooking class followed by a multi course menu tasting dinner with beverages on Friday, August 23rd at 6pm at the Carriage House.  Price per person is $70.  Reservations can be made at carriagehousetucson.com or by calling Megan Noli at 520-615-6100.
