Museum as Sanctuary: Perspectives of Resilience

July 17, 2015

|Recurring Event (See all)
third friday of every month

JULY 17, 2015–JANUARY 3, 2016

Featuring refugee artists from Bhutan, Congo, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Jordan, Mali, Mexico, and Nepal.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Hopi Foundation’s Owl & Panther Project, an organization working with refugee families and asylees. The Tucson Museum of Art has partnered with Owl & Panther Project since 2010, and in the spirit of celebration and collaboration, Museum as Sanctuary: Perspectives of Resilience provides a space for these individuals to share their artwork and stories.

This exhibition explores multiple points of view and varied perspectives. Personal timelines, sketchbooks, self-portraits, and kites created through media such as sculpture, painting, photography, mixed media, and installations offer an opportunity for artists to reflect on their role in the community.
