Event Navigation

Hear from the 2019 New Works Grantees in a presentation of their works in progress.

Funded by the City of Tucson and Pima County, the New Works Artist Project Grant provides funding to individual artists that allows them to pursue creative projects. Join us for a presentation and light refreshments, where we’ll hear from:

ANNIA JEKKA – Adam Cooper-Terán

  • ANNIA JEKKA is an audio/visual performance concerning the history –and its re-mixing– of the Tucson Basin. Told through various snapshots over 150,000 years, the work is a psychogeographic exploration of the landscape that was called Sonora, Chukshon, and the city that emerged from conquista.

Breathing Life into Tucson’s Murals – Joe Pagac

  • This project will create new augmented reality animations for two of Tucson’s largest and most beloved murals.

Fin – Angela Horchem

  • Fin – a one-woman, 55-minute, physical theatre comedy appropriate for all ages – explores death and grief from the perspective of the loved one left behind. Eleanor’s beloved pet fish has passed away, and she must embark upon a messy journey to a “new normal” after the death of Fin.

New Local Music for Bassoon Quartet – Cassandra Bendickson and LuftBassoons Quartet

  • This project supports the creation of new music for the LuftBassoons Quartet by Tucson-based composers. The new music will represent the LuftBassoons Quartet group, its community, and will show off the vibrant spectrum of the Tucson music scene in the club and in classical settings.

Place and Identity in the Borderlands – Johanna Lundy with Borderlands Ensemble, including Ellen Chamberlain, Joseph Rousos-Hammond, Sarah Toy, Ann Weaver, Robert Chamberlain

  • The Borderlands Ensemble presents “Place and Identity in the Borderlands,“a project sharing diverse artist voices and exploring cross-cultural themes, with the goal to build understanding across borders. Musical performances will take place in unique and alternative venues throughout the borderlands region of southern Arizona and northern Mexico (Sonora and Baja California), including newly commissioned music by American composers Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti and Barbara White, Mexican composers Charles Daniels Torres and Alejandro Vera, and visual art by Jessica Gonzales from Tucson, Arizona.

We Robot – Spencer Edgerton with Amanda Lee Smith and Deep Orbit/We Robot Crew

  • We Robot turns your drawings into three dimensional public art sculptures in the form of glowing steel spheres. Watch the sparks fly as our giant robot creates your art!
