North Carolina Perspectives Show at Philabaum Glass Gallery


Tucson, Ariz— Philabaum Glass Gallery opens the winter season with an artist reception on February 4th from 4-6pm.   “North Carolina Perspectives” will showcase the work of five acclaimed glass artists from North Carolina.  Each has a distinctly different approach to the medium.  The show will continue at the gallery through May 27th.


Shane Fero is a flamework artist known for his incredibly delicate Birds in brilliant, lifelike colors. Flameworking – The technique of forming objects from rods and tubes of glass that, when heated in a flame, become soft and can be manipulated into the desired shape.

John Littleton and Kate Vogel.  John is the son of Harvey Littleton, known as the “father of the studio glass movement”.  He and his wife Kate Vogel create the most exquisite “succulents” using the cast glass method.

Robert Gardner’s pieces are hot formed glass creations with batutto, the multifaceted wheel-engraved surface of glass that resembles a hammered metal effect. The grindings are made to differing depths and withoverlapping irregularity with enamels, steel and copper.

Kenny Pieper’s unique pieces are blown glass with filigrana.  Filigrana is blown glass made with colorless, white, and sometimes colored canes. The style originated in Murano, Italy in the 16th century.  His blue Narcissus is a wonder of light and reflection.
