Feb. 25 and April 22 have been added due to the popularity of the Presidio District Tour created by the Presidio Museum and the Tucson Museum of Art.
Discover the stories of Tucson’s past that have made the city what it is today on a new walking tour created by the Presidio Museum and the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block.
The tour begins at the Presidio Museum where visitors will experience how history comes alive, featuring:
- The excavation of a Native American pit house
- European technology and how it changed daily Presidio life
- Blacksmith and musket demonstrations, plus old and new world food tastings
- A pre-railroad Sonoran row house, most likely made from bricks that were once in the Presidio walls
Attendees will then enjoy a delicious lunch at La Cocina Restaurant.
After lunch, the journey through Tucson’s rich history continues at the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block. Five historic houses on the grounds of the Tucson Museum of Art built between the mid-1850s and the early 1900s will be explored:
- J. Knox Corbett House
- La Casa Cordova
- Edward Nye Fish House
- Romero House
- Stevens/Duffield House
From 10:30 am – 1:30 pm. The cost for the tour and lunch is $40, and attendees must register and pay in advance at www.TucsonPresidio.com.
The Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum is located on the northeast corner of the original Presidio. The Presidio Museum is a reconstruction of the original Tucson Presidio built in 1775. Docent tours give visitors a glimpse of what life in the Presidio was like for soldiers and other residents.
The Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block encompasses an entire city block in historic downtown, and features original and traveling exhibitions focusing on Art of Latin America, Art of the American West, Modern and Contemporary Art and Asian Art as well as tours, education programs, studio art classes, and Museum Store to delight and educate visitors.
