Save Our Saguaros

March 21 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

| Free

Event Navigation

The saguaro cactus is an icon for the beautiful desert that is such an important part of the lives of all Tucsonans. What do we need to save our saguaros from? The answer is a non-native invasive plant, buffelgrass, that was introduced to Arizona in the 1930’s. Buffelgrass is a highly flammable
grass that is spreading aggressively, forming dense stands that crowd out native plants and that propagate hot, saguaro-killing fires.

What comes back after a fire is not native vegetation—only more buffelgrass. In this Voter Education Program, you will hear from three experts about the role saguaros play in our desert ecosystem and local economy, details of the buffelgrass threat, and what actions we can all take
to Save Our Saguaros!
