Presenter: Dr. Katrina Mangin, Instructor, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona

About this Cafe: Life began in the oceans, and has thrived there for billions of years. All those marine species, from plankton to porpoises, have evolved in complex interdependence, what science calls “marine ecosystems.” In this Cafe, Dr. Mangin will introduce the topic of marine ecosystems and talk about her discovery of the samurai hydroid, a marine animal related to corals and anemones.

About Science Cafes: Science Cafes, presented by the UA College of Science, bring the community together with UA scientists and graduate students in a casual setting. You’ll learn about the latest research being conducted, get to know the faces behind the science, and have opportunities to ask questions and deepen your understanding. We have five separate cafe series at five different locations around Tucson, each with their own themes for fascinating science discussions.
