The Downtown Tucson Partnership welcomes your participation in the 23rd Annual Parade of Lights!

To enter the parade, please read the General Rules below and then fill out the online form.

 

Prizes

Once your online application is received, we will review it and contact you with any questions or concerns we may have. Once approved, you will receive a link to pay your entry fee. You will receive your staging information via telephone and email before or during the week of December 11th. If your entry is rejected, you will be notified immediately.

All entries are eligible for cash prizes. A panel of guest judges will make their selection before the parade begins. Each winning entry will be awarded a banner to proudly display along the route. The categories are:

  • Grand Marshal’s Award (Best Entry) $500 Prize
  • Pioneer Award (Best Historical or Cultural Theme) $250 Prize
  • Holiday Spirit Award (Best Use of Lights) $250 Prize
  • Harmony Award (Best Musical Group) $250 Prize
  • Bright Horizon Award (Best Youth Group) $250 Prize

Judging criteria is based on the following elements:

  • GENERAL EFFECT IN PRESENTATION:
    The overall effective presentation of the float. Its presentation as it will appear on the parade route. Beauty and creativity.
  • WORKMANSHIP:
    The craftsmanship in the float creation. Detail in design and creation of float objects with the effective use of colors and materials.
  • PARADE THEME:
    The creativity in the use of lights.
  • ORIGINALITY:
    The creativeness and originality in the float design concept.

 

General Rules

In order to maintain and enhance the quality of the parade and to ensure the safety of the participants and spectators, the following rules must be followed:

  1. Your entry MUST include the use of lights. For example, string lights, glow sticks, solar powered or battery operated pins, or LEDs are acceptable.
  2. No Santa or Mrs. Clause with your entry. This is to ensure that we have only one Santa and Mrs. Clause, so as not to confuse small children.
  3. Maximum height allowed for any entry is 13.5 feet. Anything higher cannot safely navigate the streets.
  4. Weapons (real or simulated), fireworks or any items meant to scare and intimidate are not permitted.
  5. For safety reasons, throwing candy or giveaway items from your float, vehicle, or walkers is not permitted.
  6. Use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs is strictly prohibited. Reference, inference, or promotion of the use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs is not permitted.
  7. Unauthorized solicitation of any kind is not permitted.
  8. Children (up to the age of 18) involved in the parade must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
  9. No one will be allowed to enter the parade after Monday, December 4, 2017. Late applications will NOT be accepted.
  10. The decision of the judges is final. Prize winners will be notified the evening of the parade. Judges for the parade awards are not Downtown Tucson Partnership staff.
  11. Due to insurance liability, horses are not allowed in the parade.
  12. Drivers in the parade are required to drive slowly and obey all traffic laws.
  13. Drivers must not drive vehicle close to the spectators or imitate threatening driving styles.
  14. Any pets in the parade must be on a leash or properly secured on the float or vehicle to avoid injury.
  15. All parade entries must keep their staging area clean and maintained.
  16. Parade entries may not use their vehicle irresponsibly, slow speeds shall be maintained at all times.

 

Staging

To further engage each parade entry, its participants, and its patrons into all of the holiday festivities, staging will take place near and around the festival at Jacome Plaza and down west Alameda St to Granada Ave. Once all applications are processed, we will send you your staging information with details on where your staging area is and what street to enter from.

 

Judging

Judging begins at 5:30pm. Your entry should be ready for presentation at 5:30pm. If your entry is not ready at this time, you may not be eligible for prizes. Judges are guest judges to be determined at a later date. All entries will receive notification of guest judges.

The parade starts moving at 6:30pm sharp!
